Ayurveda: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Living
Ayurveda is often described as ancient wisdom — but what makes it so powerful is how beautifully it speaks into the pace, pressure, and complexity of modern life. Even thousands of years ago, people were navigating stress, change, seasons, and emotion. Ayurveda simply observed the patterns woven into the human experience and offered gentle principles to help the body return to balance. Today, those same rhythms can help us live with more clarity, ease, and alignment — not by trying to become someone new, but by honoring the way God already designed our bodies to function.
What I love about Ayurveda is that it’s not complicated or intimidating — it’s profoundly intuitive. It gives language to the shifts we already feel but often don’t know how to interpret: why some days feel light and inspired while others feel heavy, scattered, or overstimulated... why we crave grounding in certain seasons and movement in others... why our minds, emotions, and bodies respond differently to stress. Ayurveda doesn’t ask you to adopt a new belief system; it simply helps you understand your natural patterns so you can support your body with compassion rather than frustration.
As you begin to notice these patterns — in your energy, digestion, emotions, sleep, cravings, and even the way you move through your day — Ayurveda becomes a soft companion on the journey. It helps you make sense of what your body has been communicating all along. Not through rigid rules or routines, but through awareness, alignment, and small daily choices that honor your God-given design. In this way, Ayurveda becomes less about ancient theory and more about cultivating a way of living that feels grounded, spacious, and deeply personal.
What Exactly Is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda (pronounced eye-yer-VAY-da) is a 5,000-year-old wellness system from India that focuses on one core idea: the body is always seeking balance.
The word itself means “the wisdom of life.”
It is not a religion.
It is not a spiritual practice.
It is a wellness framework—one that helps us understand how our unique bodies respond to stress, seasons, foods, rhythms, environments, and emotions.
Ayurveda teaches that each person has a natural constitution—called a dosha—that shapes how we experience the world. When you understand your dosha combination, you begin to see why certain choices support you and others drain you, why some seasons feel natural and others feel challenging, and what your body needs to feel steady and well.
The Three Doshas: Your Body’s Natural Blueprint
Most people have a combination of two doshas, with one usually being primary. Each dosha has strengths and sensitivities—neither is good or bad, just part of your natural design.
Vata — Air + Space (Movement & Creativity)
Vata governs movement—thoughts, breath, circulation, creativity.
Balanced Vata feels:
• inspired, intuitive, imaginative
• energetic, light, and free
Imbalanced Vata may bring:
• anxiety or racing thoughts
• feeling ungrounded, overwhelmed, or disconnected
• sleep irregularities
Pitta — Fire + Water (Focus & Transformation)
Pitta governs digestion—of food, information, and experiences.
Balanced Pitta feels:
• focused, motivated, decisive
• clear-thinking and purpose-driven
Imbalanced Pitta may bring:
• irritability, impatience, perfectionism
• inflammation or heat in the body
• feeling overly intense or pressured
Kapha — Earth + Water (Stability & Nourishment)
Kapha governs structure—your physical body, emotional steadiness, and resilience.
Balanced Kapha feels:
• grounded, peaceful, compassionate
• steady, consistent, nurturing
Imbalanced Kapha may bring:
• heaviness (physical or emotional)
• low motivation or stagnation
• attachment, resistance to change
Why Ayurveda Matters for Modern Living
We live in a culture that pulls us away from our natural rhythms—busy schedules, late nights, too much stimulation, constant decision-making, emotional overload, and pressure to perform.
Ayurveda gently brings us back to center.
It helps us understand:
why we’re tired
why we’re anxious
why we’re irritable
why we feel stuck
why we crave rest
why the body responds the way it does
It offers simple ways to support the nervous system, reconnect with the body, and live with more steadiness—without perfection, shame, or striving.
How Ayurveda Supports Your Faith and Your Body
Ayurveda does not replace your faith; it simply gives you language for how the body God created naturally functions.
It aligns beautifully with:
nervous system regulation
Sabbath rhythms
mindful eating
honoring seasons
listening for God’s gentle leading
treating your body with compassion
Ayurveda is not about self-salvation; it’s about self-awareness—so you can show up more fully for the life and calling God has entrusted to you.
How I Use Ayurveda in Coaching

This helps us understand your energetic tendencies, stress patterns, and natural strengths.
2. Your personal signals of balance and imbalance
Because your body speaks differently than anyone else’s.
3. Small, compassionate choices that support alignment
This may include:
grounding foods
simple breathwork
supportive routines
restorative SELAH practices
gentle movement
seasonal adjustments
4. Integration with your faith and daily life
Everything we do honors God as the ultimate healer and guide.
This is not about becoming “perfectly balanced.”
It’s about learning to live in partnership with your body instead of battling it.
